Walking is one of the most popular activities cited by visitors to the Lake District National Park. Our 'Discover, Explore, Inspire' programme of walks, navigation days and more is designed to help you make the most of this awe-inspiring destination.
We're already busy planning next year's activities so you can start planning your dream trip to the Lakes. Here’s how we can help you create a memorable trip you’ll never forget.
More than seventy inspiring volunteers lead Lake District walks. Come and meet our local heroes (and some from further away!) and discover why they are so passionate about the Park.
Their experience of the Lakes is amazing and each has their own stories and anecdotes to share with you. John (pictured right) leads the team of leaders in the southwest of the Park. He not only leads walks but volunteers for the National Park in a range of roles.
In 2013, we awarded John the prestigious Bryan Stilling National Park award for his outstanding contributions.
The Lake District National Park is the perfect place to experience a sense of freedom and well-being. And walking is a great way to get your fitness up.
We attract around 3,000 people a year on our activities, so you don't have to go it alone. Our walks vary in duration from two hours to full day hikes so you can choose your own personal challenge. Join us in 2017 and walk your way to good health.
Prefer two wheels? During August, National Park volunteers run guided bikes rides from Brockhole on Windermere. Using the bike boat, discover the quiet western shore and get away from the crowds.
We aim to cater for all ages and abilities. Our Mini Trekkers nature activity walk is designed to introduce children from ages three to eight to safe walking in the countryside. Our walks include:
Activities run during the week and most weekends. We also offer tailored walks for groups.
We’re bidding for World Heritage status in 2017.
If we’re successful we’ll join an elite list of World Heritage sites – from Egypt’s pyramids and the Taj Mahal to Hadrian’s Wall.
We’ll find out in July so fingers crossed! All our walks are designed to showcase the evolving masterpiece that is the Lake District.
Our leaders want to share that story with you so come along and celebrate the identity, inspiration and conservation of this spectacular cultural landscape.
Have you backed the bid? Join more than 8,000 people who have!
All income raised on our activities goes back into looking after the National Park.
Your investment now will help secure the future of this spectacular landscape for generations to come. Thank you!
We look forward to seeing you in 2017.
