Peter Sidwell cooks up support for World Heritage bid

22 March 2017

After a day on the fells, there’s nothing better than refuelling with a hearty meal made from fresh, Cumbrian produce. Whether you prefer luxury hotel fine dining, pub grub or cooking for friends in self-catering accommodation, good food and the Lake District go together like a mud and boots.

There is a wealth of delicious Cumbrian fare to whet your appetite. From Cumberland sausage to Grasmere gingerbread, there’s something to suit every visitor to the Lake District.

If you are looking for inspiration, take a look at our recipe from Cumbrian TV chef Peter Sidwell, who has cooked us up a special dish using Lake District beef, in support of the National Park’s bid to become a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017.

Peter cooked up Lake District Lamb with a Salsa Verde in the open air beside Crummock Water in the west of the Lake District.

"The World Heritage Bid involves everything around us: the food we are eating, the landscape we're in, the people and of course the livestock. I'm really proud to be involved in it and I hope my knowledge, my cooking and my passion really help to drive the bid forward."
