How to be Lake District Kind this Half Term

Being a Lake District lover myself and being in awe with all it has to offer, I want visitors to enjoy the National Park and its natural beauty, and I can now help do just that!

My name is Matt Croney and I’ve recently joined the Lake District National Park Authority as an Area Ranger. Anyone who knows me knows this is my kind of perfect job as I love everything outdoors, but I love seeing people enjoy it even more. I’m looking forward to repairing bridges, footpaths and gates so people can safely explore the Lake District and make precious memories!

Although ourselves, businesses and other organisations do everything we can to look after this spectacular place, we still need your help. With the schools broken up for May Half Term, I thought it’s the perfect time to share my five top tips on how to be #LakeDistrictKind during your next visit.

  1. Plan ahead to make sure you enjoy every second of your time here. If you’re driving, please check our Safer Lakes webpage to see which car parks are available.
  2. Many people live in the Lake District, so please follow the countryside code and be thoughtful. A rule of courtesy: leave gates as you find them to help livestock graze hassle free.
  3. This National Park is home to many wildlife so please take all litter home, and if you see any, please pick it up. Top tip: I like to pack a carrier bag in case I come across any litter.
  4. Respect each other by continuing to social distance.
  5. Shop locally and support local businesses. Small businesses have been impacted due to the Coronavirus pandemic, so please consider shopping locally where you can.

I hope you enjoy the Lake District whilst keeping the above in mind with your family. Together, we can make this National Park an even better place to visit. To see what we are doing around the park, follow us on Twitter @LakesRangers.
