It’s Discover National Parks Fortnight from 3-16 April, and this year, from Dartmoor in South West England to the Cairngorms in the North of Scotland, the UK’s most iconic protected landscapes will be sharing their work to support nature recovery.

The fifteen National Parks

The fifteen National Parks of Scotland, Wales and England contain vastly different terrain and many types of ecosystem:

  • Forests
  • Wetlands
  • Mountains and moors
  • Lakes and rivers
  • Agricultural landscapes

Each provides a home to many of our country’s rarest plants and animals

In the Lake District, you might catch a glimpse of:

  • Cumbrian fell ponies
  • Red squirrels
  • Herdwick sheep
  • Curlews

National Parks also release oxygen that we breathe, provide food for us to eat, and contribute towards a sustainable planet for future generations.

Nature recovery and biodiversity

National Parks in the UK are working tirelessly with scientists, volunteers, farmers, landowners and local communities to boost biodiversity and help nature thrive.

Celebrate and Discover National Parks

There are many ways to get involved. If you’re in the Lake District, you could:

#DiscoverNationalParks, whether through events and opportunities for all ages, on social media, or at www.nationalparks.uk.
